Metros: the backbone of the mass transit system.
Modern mass transit relies on efficient metro networks: hundreds of thousands of passengers avoid the traffic jams on the surface by traveling underground. It is no exaggeration to say that metros form the backbone of the mass transit system. Knorr Bremse makes sure it stays that way.
When cities grow, their metro networks grow with them. After all, mobility is becoming increasingly important both to the economy and to society as a whole. First thing in the morning, metros bring people from the suburbs to their jobs in the city center, followed a little later by the schoolchildren and students. People with a train or flight to catch take the metro to the main station or airport. And anyone who is still downtown late in the evening knows that they can rely on the metro to get them home quickly and safely.
Take a look at our product portfolio!
Air supply systems supply the compressed air required by the braking system and other subsystems. Their key components are screw compressors 'ScrewSupply' or oil-free compressors 'PistonSupply Eco' and adaptive control air dryer 'DrySupply Smart'. Our engineers always adapt the system to each metro’s specific application scenarios.
The bogie equipment is the part of the braking system that generates the braking force. The portfolio for metros features tread brake units 'TreadAct' as well as brake discs 'ProDisc Axle' and compact calipers 'AxleAct' for when installation space is at a premium.
Knorr-Bremse’s friction portfolio includes our organic Propad brake pads and Problock brake blocks that have been specially developed for metro applications.
To achieve optimum braking, the optimal braking force must be applied to each axle and bogie. The cutting-edge 'CubeControl family' is responsible for blending the different braking systems. Derailment detection systems are also available for advanced applications.
Sanding systems can make a significant contribution to reducing braking distances. Systems for metros comprise sand dosing systems, sand pipe heaters, sand level monitors, sand boxes, sand box covers and sand flow sensors.
Windscreen wiper and wash systems ensure that the driver always has a clear view. The systems comprise wiper drives, arms and blades, control units, operating controls, washer water tanks and washer pumps. Rain sensors are also often fitted to metro vehicles that serve aboveground sections of the line.
Different entrance system configurations are available for metro applications, depending on the application scenario and the operator’s requirements. The options include aluminum, full glass and stainless steel “sandwich” door leaves with obstacle detection. The systems also comprise door control units and door drives, ramps, gap bridges and sliding steps.
Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS) are the technological nerve center of modern metro vehicles, connecting the subsystems to each other and to the central vehicle control system. They are specifically tailored to a wide range of different customer requirements and now also incorporate powerful system diagnostics tools and smart fleet management systems. The WSP3 expansion module seamlessly integrates the wheel slide protection system with the TCMS. The TDS Defense in Depth Threat Detection Solution detects cyberthreats in their early stages.
