With us you will be part of a young team that enjoys technology. Do your apprenticeship in the futureproof rail vehicle industry as a:
Metal technician in the mechanical engineering module
You will learn, among other things, how to develop, manufacture, assemble and maintain or repair workpieces and components for rail vehicles - computer-aided from planning (CAD) to implementation (CNC). Duration: 3.5 - 4 years
Mechatronics technician in the electric machine technician module
You will learn, among other things, how to manufacture and maintain electromechanical systems, plants, equipment and machines and the electronic, electrical and mechanical components. Duration: 3.5 - 4 years
Our apprentice trainers accompany all apprentices through the entire apprenticeship period. The training is based on the three pillars of theory & practice & personality. During the training workshop, our specialist departments and the vocational schools in Neunkirchen (metal technology) and Amstetten (electrical engineering) you will acquire all the specialist knowledge you need for your future profession. The teaching units in the vocational schools take place annually for ten weeks at a time.
We are particularly pleased that the majority of our apprentices pass their final apprenticeship examinations with excellent or good results.

Which apprentices are trained at Knorr-Bremse and Zelisko?
Knorr-Bremse GmbH trains metal technicians in the mechanical engineering module. The subsidiary, Dr. techn. Josef Zelisko Fabrik für Elektrotechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH, trains mechatronic technicians in the electrical engineering technician module. Both companies are located in Mödling - a five minute walk from the train station.
What happens in the application process?
After you have applied via our applicant tool, we will invite you to the admission test, which will take place in March. We will test your knowledge in mathematics, physics and geometry. Immediately before the test, you also have the opportunity to get to know the training workshop during a small guided tour. If you pass the test, you will be invited to an interview with the apprentice trainer and the HR manager. You will then be accepted or rejected.
What qualities should I have as a future apprentice?
In our training workshop, great value is placed on the ability to work in a team, independence, a high willingness to learn and precise work. In addition, you should not only have a technical and mathematical understanding, but also logical reasoning and spatial imagination.
How about my working hours as an apprentice?
As an apprentice at Knorr-Bremse and Zelisko, you will start at 6:30 am and you're already off work at 3:30 pm. On Friday, your weekend starts at 12:00 noon. Apprentices under the age of 18 work until 11:00 am on Friday's.
As an apprentice, can I also complete my A-Levels ("high school diploma") during my apprenticeship?
Since we are a company that attaches great importance to training and further education, we naturally support our apprentices when they decide to complete A-Levels alongside the apprenticeship.
Will I be taken on as an apprentice after my final apprenticeship examination?
It is important to us that the professional careers of our apprentices continue in the long term after their apprenticeship in our company.
Do I also have attractive additional and social benefits as an apprentice?
During the apprenticeship period, our apprentices can complete a welding course, the moving crane training, the forklift license, the company driving license as well as an English supplementary course. In addition, we offer numerous health and fitness offers as well as all kinds of employee events. As an apprentice, you can choose between three different menus every day at reduced prices in our canteen.
Can I also go abroad as an apprentice?
As an international company, we make it possible for our top apprentices to get to know one of our plants in England for four weeks from the 3rd year of their apprenticeship. As a company, we pay for accommodation and meals.
Is there any way to supplement my apprentice pay?
Of course, good performance pays off with us. As a particularly hard-working vocational student, you will be rewarded with a bonus for consistently good performance.
Wouldn't it be great to do practical work during and after university studies?
In particular, students of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechatronics, automation technology or computer science have good chances of joining us.
Internship
Knorr-Bremse offers internship placements for dedicated students of technical courses, e.g. in the fields of design & development, quality management, IT and technical purchasing. Future technicians can also contribute their potential at Knorr-Bremse.
Working students
If you would like to gain practical experience during your studies and improve your budget at the same time, you can do so at Knorr-Bremse during your studies. We offer working students the opportunity to work on complex projects with their own responsibility and to deepen the specialist knowledge they have acquired in various technical areas during their studies.
Bachelor's and Master's theses
Depending on their specialist know-how, Knorr-Bremse offers students the opportunity to write final theses on a variety of subject-specific topics and to receive optimum support in doing so. Our various business areas offer interesting projects.
