Mechatronics technician (f/m/d)
For the mechatronics apprenticeship, you must have completed at least 9 years of compulsory schooling. Good grades in the main subjects of maths, German and English, as well as manual dexterity, a careful way of working and curiosity are also important prerequisites.
The mechatronics apprenticeship is a modular apprenticeship. This means that the apprenticeship consists of three modules: basic module, main module and specialised module.
The basic module (two-year compulsory training) is followed by a one-year training programme in the main module. Here you can choose between the following three modules:
Automation technology, electrical machine technology or production technology.
You then have the opportunity to deepen your training even further and complete an additional specialised module (e.g. robotics or PLC technology).
Our training supervisor accompanies all apprentices* throughout their apprenticeship. The apprenticeship lasts 3.5 - 4 years and is based on the three pillars of theory + practice + personality. In the training workshop, our specialist departments and at the vocational school in Amstetten, you will be taught all the specialist knowledge you need for your future career. The lessons at the vocational school take place for ten weeks at a time every year.
We are particularly pleased that the majority of our apprentices pass their final apprenticeship examination with excellent or good results.

Which apprenticeship is offered at Knorr-Bremse and Zelisko?
Knorr-Bremse GmbH and its subsidiary, Dr. techn. Josef Zelisko Fabrik für Elektrotechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH, offer apprenticeships in mechatronics with three main modules: automation technology, electrical machine technology and production technology. Both companies are located in Mödling - a five-minute walk from the railway station.
How does the application process work?
After you have applied via our application tool, we will send you a link to complete an online entrance test. This will test your knowledge of maths, physics and geometry. If you pass the test, you will be invited to an interview with our lecturer and the recruiter. It is also possible to familiarise yourself with the training workshop during a short guided tour. You will then receive an acceptance or rejection letter.
What qualities should I have as a future apprentice?
In our training workshop, great importance is placed on the ability to work in a team, independence, a high willingness to learn and precise work. In addition, you should not only have technical and mathematical understanding, but also logical thinking and spatial awareness.
What are my working hours as an apprentice?
As an apprentice at Knorr-Bremse or Zelisko, you start at 06:30 and finish work at 15:30. On Friday you can start your weekend at 12:00 noon. Apprentices under the age of 18 work until 11.00 am on Fridays.
As an apprentice, can I do my A-levels during my apprenticeship?
As we are a company that emphasises training and further education, we naturally support our apprentices if they decide to do an apprenticeship with A-levels.
Will I be taken on as an apprentice after the final apprenticeship examination?
It is important to us that our apprentices continue their professional career in our company in the long term after completing their apprenticeship.
Are there attractive additional and social benefits as an apprentice?
During their apprenticeship, our apprentices can complete a welding course, floor crane training, a forklift licence, a company driving licence and an additional English course. We also offer numerous health and fitness programmes as well as all kinds of employee events. As an apprentice, you can also choose between different menus every day at reduced prices in our company restaurant.
Can I also go abroad as an apprentice?
As an international company, we enable our top apprentices to spend four weeks at one of our plants in England from the 3rd year of their apprenticeship. As a company, we pay for accommodation and catering.
As an apprentice, can I top up my apprenticeship pay?
Of course, good performance pays off with us. As a particularly hard-working apprentice, you will be rewarded with a bonus for consistently good performance.
In particular, students of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechatronics, automation technology or computer science have good chances of joining us.
Internship
Knorr-Bremse offers internship placements for dedicated students of technical courses, e.g. in the fields of design & development, quality management, IT and technical purchasing. Future technicians can also contribute their potential at Knorr-Bremse.
Working students
If you would like to gain practical experience during your studies and improve your budget at the same time, you can do so at Knorr-Bremse during your studies. We offer working students the opportunity to work on complex projects with their own responsibility and to deepen the specialist knowledge they have acquired in various technical areas during their studies.
Bachelor's and Master's theses
Depending on their specialist know-how, Knorr-Bremse offers students the opportunity to write final theses on a variety of subject-specific topics and to receive optimum support in doing so. Our various business areas offer interesting projects.
