The current Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. was formed in 2014 through the merge of two long standing Spanish Knorr-Bremse Companies: Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A. (Brake Systems) and MERAK Sistemas Integrados de Climatización, S.A.(Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems). The Knorr-Bremse España Technological Centre is located at Calle Miguel Faraday, 1 in the "La Carpetania" Business Park in Getafe (Madrid) and houses the two above-mentioned divisions within the railway sector.

Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. – Brakes Division – (former Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A.), started its relationship with the Knorr-Bremse group in 1950 through the signing of a cooperation agreement, and this relationship developed gradually over the years with Knorr-Bremse becoming a majority shareholder in 1989. A decade later, Knorr-Bremse became sole owner with the acquisition of the remaining shares.
