Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. – Division of Brake Systems – is the leading company in the Spanish market, and with Spanish influence, for the supply of brake and automatic access IFE door systems for all rail vehicle segments, as well as Westinghouse Platform Doors. Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. – Brakes Division – (former Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A.), started its relationship with the Knorr-Bremse group in 1950 through the signing of a cooperation agreement, and this relationship has gradually developed over the years with Knorr-Bremse becoming a majority shareholder in 1989. A decade later, Knorr-Bremse became sole owner with the acquisition of the remaining shares. The company, with its current headquarters in Getafe, is the market leader in Spain for the manufacture and sale of brake equipment, electronic systems and derailment detection systems for rail vehicles, automatic access IFE door systems as well as Westinghouse Platform Doors. Included in its list of references are most of the passenger and freight transport vehicles owned by the Spanish Railway Authorities, its customers being the main international rail vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom, Vossloh, Talgo, CAF, Siemens, Bombardier and AnsaldoBreda, as well as national operators like Renfe, FEVE, Metro de Madrid, Metro Bilbao, Metro de Barcelona, Euskotren, Metro Valencia, FGV, FGC, etc.

Merak - is the Knorr-Bremse Group’s competence centre, world leader in Rail HVAC since 1963. With the brand’s headquarters located in Getafe, Madrid, and further primary locations in China, Australia, Austria and the United States, the company is in charge of the design, manufacture, installation and support of high quality HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems for all rail applications worldwide.

With highest Engineering competence and in close cooperation with operators and carbuilders, Merak has successfully led the industry’s most challenging applications, providing sustainable passenger health and comfort with its advanced technologies as well as environmentally and energy friendly systems, in any type of rail vehicle and any kind of climatic condition. Merak has more than 100.000 units in daily operation and is close to the customer through its 19 sites on the five continents.

Frenos and Merak merged in 2014 to create the current Knorr-Bremse España company. The Knorr-Bremse España Technology Centre is located at Calle Miguel Faraday, 1 in the "La Carpetania" Business Park in Getafe (Madrid) and houses the two above-mentioned divisions within the railway sector.

Knorr-Bremse Pamplona, S.L. was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between the Spanish Berkelium Group and Knorr-Bremse, with the former name of Icer-Rail S.L. - developing and producing organic brake pads and brake blocks for railway vehicles. Today, Knorr-Bremse Pamplona, S.L. is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of friction materials for rail vehicles. In Pamplona, Spain, the company develops and produces innovative friction materials for almost all railway applications. In 2016, Knorr-Bremse acquired Icer Rail, S.L. in its entirety.
