The current Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. was formed in 2014 through the merge of two long standing Spanish Knorr-Bremse Companies: Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A. (Brake Systems) and MERAK Sistemas Integrados de Climatización, S.A.(Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems). The Knorr-Bremse España Technological Centre is located at Calle Miguel Faraday, 1 in the "La Carpetania" Business Park in Getafe (Madrid) and houses the two above-mentioned divisions within the railway sector.

Knorr-Bremse España, S.A. – Brakes Division – (former Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A.), started its relationship with the Knorr-Bremse group in 1950 through the signing of a cooperation agreement, and this relationship developed gradually over the years with Knorr-Bremse becoming a majority shareholder in 1989. A decade later, Knorr-Bremse became sole owner with the acquisition of the remaining shares. It is the leading company in the Spanish market, and with Spanish influence, for the supply of brake and automatic IFE door systems, electronic systems and derailment detection systems for all rail vehicle segments, as well as Westinghouse Platform Doors. Included in its list of references are most of the passenger and freight transport vehicles owned by the Spanish Railway Authorities, its customers being the main international rail vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom, Stadler, Talgo, CAF, Siemens and Hitachi, as well as national operators like Renfe, FEVE, Metro de Madrid, Metro Bilbao, Metro de Barcelona, Euskotren, Metro Valencia, FGV, FGC, etc.

(formerly Icer-Rail, S.L.) was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between the Spanish Berkelium Group and Knorr-Bremse España and currently it is fully owned by the Knorr-Bremse Group since 2016. Today, it is one of the world's leading manufacturers' company of friction materials for rail vehicles. It is based in Pamplona, Spain and the company is active in the development and production of organic brake linings and brake shoes as well as the development and production of sintered friction elements for the railway sector.
