For Knorr-Bremse, the “Evolution of Braking” is a basic guiding principle. Our aim is to help you increase your transportation capacity and stabilize your operations – either separately or together. First, with our two brake control families , CubeControl and FlexControl, which provide customized control systems for almost any application, based on state-of-the-art electronics platforms. And second, with our Electromechanical Brake (EM brake). Instead of generating and transferring braking signals and braking energy by conventional, electropneumatic means, the EM brake uses brake-by-wire technology to do the same things by electricity alone. This is Knorr-Bremse’s first contribution to the “airless” train – a train that no longer needs a complex system of compressors, tanks, pipes and hydraulics that depend on compressed air.

Our Reproducible Braking Distance (RBD) development program is another example of our “Evolution of Braking” principle in action. By combining our innovative Deceleration Control (DCC) system with the significantly improved MGS3 wheel-slide protection system and a sanding system, Knorr-Breme aims to significantly reduce the variance and spread of braking distances. In turn, this will improve the utilization of rail infrastructure.

The Digital Freight Train (DFT) is laying the foundations of a rail freight network that is more predictable, faster, and more flexible. The Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC) , dubbed FreightLink by Knorr-Bremse, acts as the key enabler of this freight train transformation. Our FreightControl automation system turns railcars into automation-compatible vehicles capable of running as fully integrated components in smart, automated processes.

At the same time, Knorr-Bremse is showcasing Automatic Couplers for passenger trains. With a presence in more than 40 countries, and numerous field service operations around the world, Knorr-Bremse’s unique, global service network is an impressive example of top-quality customer support delivered at local, on-site level.

The LIFEDrive entrance system developed by Group brand IFE enhances the flow of passengers, especially on very busy station platforms. The system is the first to feature a separate drive for each door leaf, delivering huge benefits in day-to-day operation.

The Flat Floor Design of our hydraulic braking systems minimizes the installation space required in LRVs while maximizing the unobstructed flow of passengers, who can quickly board and alight from streetcars even at ground-level platforms. Our HydroControl Smart system supports bogie-based CBM data collection. And our HydroAct Float system is impressively easy to maintain.

The System Integrated Functional Unit (SIFU) developed by our Microelettrica business unit consists of a maintenance-friendly solution that packages numerous vehicle power distribution control and diagnostics components in a single compact, digitized system.

For almost half a century, Evac has been the world’s leading supplier of fully integrated sanitary systems for passenger trains. More recently, Evac has become a Knorr-Bremse brand. As a leading Tier 1 supplier, the company provides a space-saving compact toilet system with exceptional passenger comfort. Equipped with integrated fault detection and rectification functions, the system boasts class-leading reliability figures – and is also extremely efficient, using just half a liter of water per flush.
