Setting up a new “one-stop shop” in Scandinavia.
Knorr-Bremse is substantially expanding its portfolio as a service systems partner to Nordic customers. The appropriate competition authorities have given the company the go-ahead to acquire DSB Component Workshops from Danish train operator Danske Statsbaner (DSB).
“It doesn’t matter where our customers are operating their rail vehicles – we always strive to offer them a comprehensive range of services, from fast repairs to high-quality maintenance and overhauls,” explains RailServices Vice President Frank Uder. “That’s why this acquisition fits so perfectly into our ‘one-stop shop’ strategy, with its specific focus on excellence, efficiency and availability.”
By acquiring the respected Danish components and spare parts specialist, RailServices intends to establish an extended service hub, make the most of growth opportunities in the region, and enable innovative services for the rail sector. According to Jonas Samuelson, the local service hub’s Managing Director: “High-quality services are some of the most critical criteria for smooth-running rail operations. Our whole team is focused on and enormously motivated by this priority.”
Knorr-Bremse bundles its aftermarket activities for the rail industry under the RailServices umbrella, offering innovative solutions for every stage in the vehicle life cycle. RailServices is manufacturer- and operator-independent, and has a deep understanding of rail operations, systems and products across the industry.
Long-term maintenance agreements between Knorr-Bremse and DSB
DSB Component Workshops currently employs around 400 full-time staff at five sites in Arhus and Copenhagen. Following the acquisition, Knorr-Bremse will develop these “shops” into a regional service hub. In the process, the company will benefit from its long-term maintenance agreements with Danske Statsbaner. The train operator is looking to RailServices for extensive support as it further expands its digital activities in particular and makes rail travel in Denmark even more attractive.
Knorr-Bremse has clearly stated that its service ambitions extend beyond Denmark’s borders. Given the increasing deregulation of Nordic rail markets, the acquisition represents an exceptional opportunity to provide high-quality services to other operators and rolling stock companies in Scandinavia. After all, their fleets are operating just a few hours away from Knorr-Bremse’s new Danish service hub.
