At InnoTrans 2026, Knorr-Bremse is presenting Wayside Solutions that make rail transportation safer, more reliable and more efficient. Our contribution to the mobility transition is not limited to rail vehicles. Using select infrastructure technologies, we are systematically combining state-of-the-art signaling technology with intelligent system solutions and digital data systems to enable rail network integration.
By focusing on ancillary infrastructure components, we are extending the capabilities of existing systems and helping rail operators, transit authorities and system integrators to implement rail projects that meet future needs. Our Wayside Solutions enable the safe, secure management, monitoring and end-to-end optimization of operational rail track processes – making a major contribution to improving the safety, capacity and efficiency of rail operations.
Field Elements – seamlessly integrated into the rail network
Using the field elements in our wayside equipment, we show how our solutions systematically control infrastructure along the route, helping operators to transform rail infrastructure into a single connected, fully integrated system. Our ElectroLogIXS Object Controller acts as the central control unit, managing and monitoring all connected signals, switch machines, track circuits, and axle counters – essentially linking physical track infrastructure with digital control logic.
As part of our ElectroLogIXS platform, the Object Controller uses the same hardware modules and software tools as our Vital Logic Controller (VLC) and can be integrated with interlocking (centralized) or field (distributed) wayside applications. It also supports multiple data transmission protocols. The result is a scalable system architecture characterized by lower lifecycle costs and higher operational resilience.
We are also presenting our LED-based signal indicators for various route types and operating environments. Our third-generation LED COMPACT line signals combine state-of-the-art technology with an optimized, robust, fully recyclable design to deliver a long service life, reduced maintenance overhead, and high levels of compatibility with existing infrastructure. Our interactive onscreen application illustrates what the system architecture is capable of and which applications it enables.
Data-driven interlocking technology – featuring intelligent wayside control
At the heart of our interlocking exhibit is the ElectroLogIXS VLC (Vital Logic Controller). This scalable wayside controller covers a broad range of signaling applications, from the smallest signal repeaters through to complex interlockings. Our Wayside System Data Management Module (WSDMM™) exchanges operational data with our Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) in real time. The DAU collects relevant operational data directly at the trackside, while the WSDMM™ handles structured data processing, storage and analytics, as well as alarm management. Our interactive onscreen application illustrates how the individual components in these complex systems work together in operation.
Level crossing – safe, reliable control where rail meets road
Our level crossing exhibit features a stylized crossing with barrier, LED signal indicators and a physical control unit in the form of our ElectroLogIXS XP4 Object Controller. The latter enables the safe, reliable management of all crossing system components.
As part of our ElectroLogIXS platform, it combines our longstanding experience of level crossing control with our state-of-the-art, integrated platform architecture. Dedicated modules for detecting trains and controlling warning devices can be precisely tailored to specific project requirements. Our interactive onscreen application illustrates how the system works in operation.
