Celebrating the Elizabeth Line’s third anniversary

As the Elizabeth Line celebrates its third anniversary on 24th May 2025, Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems joins in celebrating this milestone in modern rail transport. Since opening in May 2022, the Elizabeth Line has become a cornerstone of London’s transport network, with around 700,000 passengers using the line daily and several stations consistently ranking among the busiest in the UK.

Our innovative platform screen doors, designed, manufactured, and installed for the line’s eight central stations, have played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and comfort of millions of passengers. From Paddington to Woolwich, these cutting-edge doors have transformed the passenger experience, offering real-time information, reducing noise, and enabling energy-efficient climate control.

The installation of the 432 pairs of doors across 16 platforms was a logistical achievement for our PSD project team, overcoming significant challenges with a groundbreaking method of pre-assembling and testing the modules off-site before precise installation on-site. This method not only saved time but also showcased a replicable model for future railway projects worldwide.

Knorr-Bremse has been a proactive and dependable partner throughout the journey. Their team became an integral part of our operations—offering daily support, sharing knowledge, and stepping in whenever needed. Their professionalism during trial running and early passenger service was outstanding.
